The Thoughts and Prayers Society
Hello all, and welcome to our monthly meeting of the Thoughts and Prayers Society. As you all know, I'm Miranda, chapter president. It's so good to see all of you here today!
Let's get started by reviewing the minutes from last month's meeting. Amy forgot to bring snacks, so instead we ate some of Jill's leftover Thoughts and Prayers. So filling. Jill, girl, you have got to send me that recipe! We opened with Steph's update on our Community Thoughts and Prayers garden, which sadly shriveled up and died in the summer heat, even though we prayed so hard for daily rain with a little bit of fertilizer in the runoff. Oh well. The Lord works in mysterious ways!
We then took some time to watch Theresa's Thoughts and Prayers cut of Beauty and the Beast. I think we all agreed that the movie makes much more sense when Belle, rather than trying to save the Beast from that angry mob, stays home with her dad and sends them Thoughts and Prayers. Remember our mantra: "greater love has no one than this, that he stay home, think, and pray on it." It was a bit sad when the Enchanted Castle burned down and everyone in it died except the Beast who stayed a Beast forever, but maybe it was for the best. The decoration in there was so tacky anyway. All the furniture had faces on it!
Of course, our main focus in August was hurricane relief. I am proud to report that we sent 47 thoughts and 52 prayers to those affected! Amazing job, ladies. We kept a lot of victims dry and warm last month. Not their bodies so much, but their hearts. Their spirits. At least, the deserving ones who were willing to receive it. Great job living the mantra: "whatever you thought for one of the least of these my brothers, you thought for me."
So now it is time to vote on our big project for September. We've got a couple of proposals, so I'll just read some of them off now.
Margie suggested that we Think and Pray for the Area Food Bank this month. I gave them a call and they were really excited to partner with us. But then, would you believe that they asked us when we wanted to drop off our donations? I must admit I laughed a little when I told their woman that we don't do physical donations, only spiritual ones. She didn't seem pleased, even though I explained to her that our thoughts and prayers would be delivered instantaneously! She said that, while the people they serve would appreciate thoughts and prayers, they also needed to eat. I tried to explain to her about filling the soul, but she sounded so frazzled that I couldn't get through to her. After half-an-hour, she just hung up on me! We need an organization that fits better with our mission. Our thoughts and prayers are better spent elsewhere.
Ellen suggested the local library. They had a similar reaction, but with books instead of food. People are so greedy these days!
I'd like to propose my own idea: a Habitat for Humanity build. It's an excellent organization that provides all the tools and materials we'll need. All we'd have to do is show up, join hands in a circle on the lot, and pray that house up. We can even get t-shirts! I was thinking sort of a pale blue with "The House That Prayer Built" on the back. It's going to be so beautiful.
Shall we take a vote? All those in favor of my idea? Oh good! I haven't called Habitat to tell them our plan yet, but I'm sure they'll love it. This project will go so well with the mantra: "let your light shine before others, that they may see your Thoughts and Prayers and glorify your Father in heaven."
Finally, we'll take a minute to go over past Thought-and-Prayer Requests. Helen, do you still have that rash we thought and prayed over last month? Oh my word, honey, is that it? I thought you were wearing a polka-dotted turtleneck! Ladies, we have really got to buckle down and Think-and-Pray for Helen's rash this month. Hashtag ShrinkTheRash! In the meantime, if I were you, Steph, I might find a new carpool.
Have a great month, ladies. I'll see you all in November. And until then, remember our foremost mantra: "faith without works is efficient."
